This year marks Marubeni Citizen-Cincom’s 40th anniversary. The machine tool builder is celebrating with an IMTS booth that features 14 machines (more than past shows). Two are prototypes: a Miyano BNX 65 MSY and a Cincom L32-3M12B5 with automatic toolchanger. Two other machines are outfitted with automated robot load/unload and inspection capabilities to demonstrate the advantages of unattended machining.

For the first time at IMTS, the company is also unveiling its tooling and accessory workshop. In addition to seeing MCC-designed and manufactured ancillary equipment running on machines in the booth, the workshop enables attendees to learn more about those specifically engineered accessories that can boost machining efficiency and capabilities for Cincom and Miyano machine models. Plus, they can assemble their own wine bottle openers from 10 components produced on various machines throughout the company’s South Building booth.

There’s an educational aspect of this, too, in that attendees can learn more about the machine on which each part was produced as well as the tools and ancillary devices used to create it. According to the company, this helps reinforce the notion that it strives to be a one-stop-shop not only for the machine tool itself, but the additional equipment that can be applied to create a more effective overall machining process. Examples on display in the workshop include:

  • Tandem thread whirling unit. Originally designed for complicated bone screw machining, this device can be used on various complex-threaded components to provide faster cycle times and higher throughput.
  • Adaptive guide bushing. An alternative to conventional guide bushings, this model adjusts and maintains non-ground bar stock varying in diameter by as much as 0.008 inch. This constant-pressure guide bushing is said to provide high rigidity and uniformity of setup.
  • High-pressure coolant systems. These systems deliver coolant to the tip of the tool, keeping the tool and workpiece free of chips and increasing tool life. They are well suited for deep-hole machining operations such as boring and gundrilling.
  • Hobbing attachment. Gear production can be simplified and made faster to program with Citizen controls, given only one line of extra NC code is needed.

The tooling and accessories seen at IMTS are only a few that MCC offers. The company has a wide range of products readily available. Plus, its R&D team is at the ready to review and produce other tooling or accessories you might desire. Don’t hesitate to ask.

Check out the company’s booth to learn more about these offerings and, while there, don’t forget to assemble your own wine bottle opener to take home with you.
