AR Immersion to Learn about Cutting Tools and Services

Along with product video, imagery and application information, the Seco Tools booth experience includes expert voiceovers and animations.

A little augmented reality goes a long way in conveying just how much Seco provides through its product and service portfolio. The company is using augmented reality at its booth (not to be confused with the virtual reality presentations that have become so prevalent at trade shows the last few years) to deliver additional information about select products on-demand via Microsoft Hololens headsets. Along with product video, imagery and application information, the experience includes expert voiceovers and animations.

“We’re excited to experiment with this enhanced visitor experience for IMTS, but more importantly, we’re pushing the boundaries with the technology to identify and better define opportunities across other areas of our organization,” says Seco North America President Rob Keenan.

One area of growth Seco is highlighting is new services. The company is expanding into consulting to identify issues or opportunities for improvement across the entire manufacturing process, not just those areas relating to cutting tools. The process starts with a Manufacturing Efficiency Evaluation (MEE) to identify waste in machining processes and to suggest areas of improvement for enhanced machining productivity. The process identifies losses and suggests improvements in the current operating system and currently used equipment across the machine shop. Looking at the performance of the production system, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and quality processes, Seco Consultancy Services will also identify gaps and improvement levers that shops can use to manage the manufacturing environment and human intellect.

Seco is also giving away a trip for two to Detroit, Michigan, to immerse the guests in Seco’s North American headquarters, check out the city and attend a local sporting event. The winner will be able to choose the timing of his or her visit to align with their favorite spectator sport. From baseball and the car races in the summer to football and hockey in the winter, it seems nearly everything is within reach in Southeast Michigan. Stop by the booth this week to enter to win the trip or other prizes including Shinola watches and personalized sports jerseys.
