Cobots Feature Force/Torque Sensor and Redesigned User Interface

Universal Robots is launching its new flagship e-Series UR3e, UR5e, and UR10e robot arms in North America at IMTS booth N-236861.

Universal Robots is launching its new flagship e-Series UR3e, UR5e, and UR10e robot arms in North America at IMTS booth N-236861. The e-Series enables faster development for a wider variety of applications, even easier programming, and meets the latest ISO safety standards.

With a new built-in, tool-centric force/torque sensor, the e-Series is ready to take on applications requiring force control, such as assembly, sanding, buffing, polishing and deburring where force feedback is paramount in order to obtain uniform results and repeatability. The force/torque sensor can measure mass, perform inspection processes, or precisely detect contact. A repeatability of 30 microns (0.03 mm) in the UR3e and UR5e models and 50 microns (0.05 mm) in the UR10e means the new cobots are suitable for very precise finishing, assembly and electronics tasks

A redesigned intuitive and responsive-touch user interface expedites program development by simplifying flows to a few clicks on a new lightweight, widescreen Teach Pendant.

It takes just one hour to unpack, mount and program the first task for the UR cobots. The user interface now also includes programming stopping time and distance for protective stops. This unique feature greatly reduces the complexity and uncertainty involved in performing risk assessments. All 17 safety functions are certified by TÜV Nord and in compliance with the EN ISO 13849-1 and EN ISO 10218-1 machinery safety standards for unobstructed human-robot collaboration.

Universal Robots will start taking orders for the e-Series immediately and plans to begin shipping units to customers starting August 1, 2018. Lead time is expected to be the same as with its other products (five days).
