Engis Boring Tool Provides Burr-Free Finishes

IMTS 2024: Engis Corp. presents its Engis Hybrid solution for boring finishing processes, designed to produce sharper, burr-free finishes on cross holes and meter edges within the part.

Engis Corp. presents its Engis Hybrid solution, designed to streamline workflow in bore finishing processes by integrating single-pass bore finishing with a multistroke honing process in a single cabinet, which can reduce the number of required steps in an operation. These integrated technologies can enable users to optimize precision when finishing bored components. It is also said to produce sharper, burr-free finishes on cross holes and metering edges within the part.

This model’s custom multistroke head uses a set of expanding honing stones to semi-finish bores. The programmable expansion amount is verified by a subsequent gauge station, enabling the machine controls to automatically compensate for tool wear. Additionally, the system incorporates a separate column with three single-pass spindles for the final finishing process.

The components are loaded into part holding fixtures arranged around a rotary index table for maximized productivity. This setup can enable all operations to occur simultaneously, producing a complete finished part with each cycle. Operators can load and unload the parts manually or use a custom robotic automation package.

This single-step system, designed for high-volume production of hydraulic servo valve bushings, can finish hundreds of thousands of bores annually, according to the company.
