Okuma America Corp., a leading builder of machine tools, announces the debut of the new LU7000 EX, which is great news for manufacturers in the oil and gas industry. This powerful, two-saddle CNC lathe has a wide range of spindle motor specifications allowing the machine to handle manufacturing of large parts with ease. At IMTS 2018, the LU7000EX will be equipped with a bolt-on m-turret and long boring bar and be shown cutting an oil pipe/flange.

The LU7000EX features a large two-meter bed and high-power spindles (45 kW, 55 kW, and 75 kW) that provide stable, heavy-duty cutting with full utilization of upper and lower turrets. Additional machining accuracy is achieved with the Thermo-Friendly Concept, which compensates for temperature changes that occur during manufacturing. Ceiling and front door shower coolant also allow for complete chip removal and improved visibility.

Additional highlights for the LU7000EX include:

  • A maximum turning diameter of 35” and workpiece weight of 24,000 lbs
  • Four types of spindle bore diameters and five different distances between centers
  • Various machining specs, which includes milling tool spindle, self-traveling tailstock, and a long boring bar that can cut internal diameter with an extension of 47”
  • Three-point bearing support for the accurate spindle, which leads to stability and durability
  • Okuma’s Machining Navi T-g, which makes precision threading with minimal chatter possible
  • Okuma’s open-architecture OSP-P300 control, which offers operators one-screen “easy operation”

This powerful and versatile, large bed lathe is a game-changer for the oil and gas industry. Its introduction to the market shows that Okuma remains dedicated to delivering products that have been built from the ground up to meet the stringent demands of manufacturers around the world.
