UR3: The Most Flexible Tabletop Robot to Work Alongside Humans

UR3 is Universal Robots’ smaller robot for light assembly tasks and automated workbench scenarios.

UR3 is Universal Robots’ smaller robot for light assembly tasks and automated workbench scenarios. The compact tabletop robot weighs only 24.3 lbs but has a payload of 6.6 lbs, 360-degree rotation on all wrist joints and infinite rotation on the end joint. The six-axis robot arm’s repeatability is ±0.004", which allows for quick precision handling. These features are said to make UR3 the most flexible, lightweight tabletop robot to work side-by-side with employees in the market. Unlike room-sized, heavy automation technology, the lightweight and flexible UR robot can be used directly alongside humans with no safety guarding after risk assessment. Innovative force-sensing technology enables the robot to stop operating if it encounters obstacles in its route. Training a UR robot to perform a task can is done via the intuitive touch screen provided with the robot, or by simply grabbing the robot arm to demonstrate desired movement. It’s an ideal choice for applications that require six-axis capabilities where size, safety and costs are critical.

UR3 is an optimal assistant in assembly, polish, glue and screw applications requiring uniform product quality. Because of its compact form and easy programming, it’s easy to switch it between tasks to meet agile manufacturing needs resulting in low total cost of ownership and an ultra-fast payback period.

The robot provides default force sensing of 150 N but can be set to stop if it encounters a force as low as 50 N in its route. Custom end-of-arm tooling is available through the UR+ platform, featuring an ecosystem of third-party providers developing plug-and-play products certified for UR robots. UR3 robot applications span manufacturing industries from medical devices to circuit boards and electronic components.
